Orthodontic FAQs

Why is Orthodontic Treatment Important?

Orthodontic treatment helps improve teeth function and contributes to healthy smiles. A properly aligned smile makes it easier for you to bite, chew, breathe, and speak. When teeth are misaligned, they can be harder to clean and may be vulnerable to abnormal wear, especially of the tooth enamel, which often leads to extensive and expensive dental procedures in the future.

How long does Orthodontic Treatment take?

Everyone’s orthodontic treatment is unique to their specific needs. Because of this, the length of orthodontic treatment varies from patient to patient. While some issues can be resolved in less time than others, the average orthodontic treatment lasts around two years. However, orthodontists can correct certain issues in as little as six months, while other, more involved issues, may take 3 years or more

What causes Orthodontic Problems?

Orthodontic problems, otherwise known as malocclusions, are either inherited or acquired. Inherited problems include crowding of teeth, too much space between teeth, extra or missing teeth, and many other irregularities of the jaws, teeth, and face.

Acquired problems can be caused by accidents, behaviors like thumb or pacifier sucking, airway obstruction by tonsils and adenoids, dental disease, or premature loss of primary or permanent teeth. Whether inherited or acquired, many of these problems can affect teeth alignment and facial appearance.

How often will I need to see my Orthodontist?

The frequency with which you visit the office will vary depending on the type and stage of your treatment. In general, while most treatments are underway, you will likely have appointments every eight to twelve weeks.

How much does Orthodontic Treatment cost?

The cost of orthodontic treatment varies greatly per patient. During your first consultation, Dr. White will review your suggested treatment plan and the associated costs.
